SOLD HIS SAMPLES
Picture Canvasser Punished Convicted on a charge of stealing two pictures, valued at 15/-, Charles Hamilton Romer, labourer, aged 42, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. Sub-Inspector Ward said that accused had called on a Mr. D. C. Russ and secured a job as canvasser for orders for his pictures. He had been given two samples, which he had sold in an hotel i for 4/-. The samples had not been. for sale—they had. been given to accused simply for the purpose of obtaining orders. Accused had said later that lie was under the influence of drink when he sold the samples. “Nothing, except that if I am given a chance I will make restitution and I will take out a prohibition order,” accused said when asked by the magistrate if he had anything to say. The magistrate remarked that accused had a long list of previous convictions. He would be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
