FIFTEEN-MILE SWIM

I George Young, of Toronto, on Wednesday, won the fifteen-mile Canadian National Exhibition swim, in which 180 started. Young wins 10,000 dollars. His victory constitutes a come-back after a long succession of failures following his winning of the Catalina, California, 26-mile mara- ■ thon in 1927. I The time was eight hours eight minI utes. The. water registered 58 degrees,, and only six swimmers were left when Young finished. Bill Coll, of New York, was about a mile behind Young, and continued to finish second. A crowd of 100,000 saw the finish. (Rec. September 3, 7 p.m.) Warren Anderson, of Sydney, Nova Scotia, was third. Young, Coll, and Anderson were the only swimmers to complete the distance. With less than a mile to go Ernest Vierkoetter, of Toronto, was taken from the water.
