Young, Mrs. Young, and Miss Young, of Wellington, arc staying at the Hotel Cargen, Auckland. Mrs. E. Matthews, Miss I. K. Matthews, and Miss S. Barker, of Wellington, who have been visiting the Islands, returned to Auckland by the Tofua. Mrs. Thompson and Misses L. and M. Thompson, Wellington South, are tho guests of Mrs. Frank Vickorman, “The Anchorage,” Paraparaumu Beach. Misses M. Hansard (Waverjey) and H. Papps (Batea), who have been visiting Wellington on a brief holiday returned home yesterday. Mr. Justice Ostler and Mrs. Ostler, who have been on a health tour of the Islands, returned to Auckland by the Tofua. They will arrive in Wellington at the end of this week. Mrs. T. E. Taylor, Cashmere Hills, and Miss E. Andrews, New Plymouth, were the guests of honour at the Lady Jellicoe Club, 'Wellington, the other evening. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Meeting at Halcombe The usual monthly meeting of the Halcombo Women’s Institute was held on Thursday, August 13, when Mrs. T. Vile presided over an attendance of 45 members and friends. The afternoon was devoted to demonstrations of various methods of rugmaking, stuffed toys, mocassins, and several other handcrafts, by Mrs. Harrison, of Bahiatua. The demonstration proved of great interest to those present. At the conclusion of the demonstration Mrs. Harrison was accorded a hearty vote of thariks.

The afternoon’s competition was won by Mrs. J. Ferguson, with Miss Merrit second. „ The hostesses were Mesdames W. McLennan, N. Miles, and Miss E. Ferguson, a dainty tea being served by the trio. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a verv enjoyable afternoon. JUVENILE DANCE A juvenile dance will be held on Friday, September 4 in aid of the Kelburn Blunket Society, at the Kelburn Kiosk. This will be the second dance held of its kind, the first one being an outstanding Success. PROVINCIAL ITEMS Mrs. G. Dunken, Napier, is visiting ■Wanganui. Mr. and Sirs. Murray Page, Hawera, have taken up residence at Wanganui. Mrs. P. O’Neill, Wanganui, has returned from a brief visit to Wellington. Mrs. F. Searle, Wanganui, is visiting Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Boyes have returned to Wanganui from Wellington. Mrs. Erie Cutfirld, Wanganui, is visiting New Blymouth. Mrs. C. Horne has returned to Wanganui from Hawera.

Mrs. R. Hatrick, Wanganui, is on holiday at Castlecliff. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Silk, Wanganui, are visiting Rotorua. Miss B. Ryan, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. B. O’Neill. Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. C. A bridge party was held at the »ictoria League Rooms, Wanganui, on Tuesday afternoon. The hostess was Mrs. A. J. Crawford, president of the Wanganui Plunket Society, and the proceeds were for all the baby candidates in the Plunket Baby Contest. Mrs. Crawford was assisted by the conveners of the various committees, MesdameS F. P. Taiboys, W. H. Swanger, T. R. Wright, A. JS. Halligan, A. R. Merrington, W. Draflin, N. R.
