National Economies
Sir, —A week or two ago a deputation waited on the Prime Minister asking for a technical school at Papanui. Mr. Forbes stated that- notwithstanding the proximity of a general election that fact would not influence him in the allocation of public money. So far so good. But the Minister went on to say that he recognised that the district was in need of a technical school. This reply was. I think, a mistake. This is no time for new technical schools —the country cannot afford even these very desirable things just now. Our swollen expenditure on education must be cut down by £1,000,000.-1 am, CtC '' COMMON SENSE. Wellington, August 31.
