Mrs. Mary Mountain In her ninety-first year, Mrs. Mary Mountain, widow of the late Frank Mountain, a well-known hotelkeeper, died at a daughter’s residence, Lyall Bay, on Monday. Born in Tipperary, Ireland, in 1841, she went out to Australia -in 1860, and was married in 1864 in Brisbane. She remained there for another three years and removed to Christchurch in 186:. About 60 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Mountain came to Wellington. After spending some six years here they went to the Wairarapa, where they remained for five years, and finally returned to Welhn jlr n ’Mountain, who predeceased his wife by 28 years, was at one time the proprietor of the New Zealander Hotel. He built Tattersall’s Hotel, later known as the Cambridge Hotel, and recent.y replaced by a more modern structure. The late Mrs. Mountain enjoyed comparatively good health until recently, and had only been bedridden since Friday. She is survived by two daughters and one son, Mrs. Wareham, Lyall Bay, Mrs. Clancy, and Mr. Frank Mountain. Sydney. ( Rev. T. C. Brooke The death is announced from Auckland of the Rev. Thomas George Brooke, Methodist minister and ex-president of the Methodist Conference. Among Mr. Brooke’s South Island stations were Hokitika, Greymouth, Ashburton. South Dunedin and Morningtori. Lehmstedt After a long illness, the death occurred at his residence, Mauriceville West, on Monday, of Guido Felix Lehmstedt, at the age of 69 years, states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Masterton. The late Mr. Lehmstedt was of a retiring disposition. He had resided in the district for about forty years and had followed farming and contracting pursuits. He is survived by a widow, one son, Mr. W. H. Lehmstedt, and two grandchildren. Mr. George Gray The death occurred suddenly at Masterton yesterday of Mr. George Gray, at the age of 61 years, reports a "Dominion” Special Service message from Masterton. The late Mr. Gray, who -had resided in Masterton for about 30 years, was well known throughout the district for. his keen interest in bands, private theatricals and carnivals. Mr. Gray was a member of the Masterton Municipal Band for many years, and as a brilliant cornet player took part in several band contests. He was also an active member of the Masterton Amateur /Theatrical Society, and was for many years the society’s producer. Mr. Grav was at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Loader, of Devon Street, nt the time of his demise, and was walking across the lawn when he suddenly collapsed and expired. ,
