CHILD FATALLY HURT
Three Persons in Hospital MOTOR-CAR HITS POLE By Telegraph—Press Association. . Napier, August 31. A motor-car collided at Taradale last night with, a power pole and resulted in serious injuries to Mr. A. Whiti Whiti, the driver, and his wife and child, also his sister-in-law, .Mrs. Matu. All were admitted to hospital. . . Mr. W. F. Desha was also injured, but was able to proceed home after receiving first-aid treatment. The child died early this morning, and the latest. reports are that the two women are in a serious condition. The man has improved somewhat. It is understood that Mr. Whiti Whiti attempted to pass another car, skidded, struck a culvert, and crashed into the pole. The car was wrecked. CARS IN COLLISION Passengei- Seriously Injured By Telegraph—Press Association. Te Aroha, August 31. In a motor-car collision at Waihou on Saturday evening, Mr. T. Burmester, of Te Aroha, received seve/e cnts in the head and was knocked unconscious. A daughter of Mr. M. Mathis, of Waitoa, was injured on the forehead, and is in a serious condition in hospital."
