BANDS AT PETONE

Statement in a Letter From time to time the position of two bands in Petone has been before the Petone Borough Council. At one meeting a deputation waited on the council from the Petone Central Band in an endeavour to get uniforms and certain instruments from the General Motors Band, which is the new name of the Petone Municipal Band. The council suggested that a conference should be held by representatives of the two bands and the council. A letter was received at last night’s meeting of the council from the General Motors Band stating that, in its opinion, no good could come from such a conference. “This band is not prepared to give any of its property to-the Central Band,” the, letter added. In agreeing that the only course the council could adopt was to receive the letter, Councillor Jacobson said: “When conditions change and the General Motors Band want something from the council we should remember the tone of the band’s letter. I don’t see that we can do anything. It is their property. I thought a talk would do some good.”
