Local Bodies’ Conference A conference of the Hutt Valley local bodies was held last Friday with a view to the useful employment of-men at present on the No. - 5 scheme. The representatives were: Hutt County, Messrs. D. Hoggard and Dyer; Petoneßorough, Councillor Jacobson; Lower Hutt, Mr. W. T. Strand (mayor) and Councillor J. Mitchell; Upper Hutt,- Mr. A. J. McCurdy (mayor) and Councillor A. Howell. Mr. A. J. -McCurdy, who suggested the meetIng, occupied the chair and explained the objects of the. meeting. It was decided to seek interviews with the Ministers of Labour, Public Works and Ka i 1 t lW it J understood matters discussed included the widening and extension of the Hutt Road to connect with Sllverstream, and preparation for the carrying out ot the heavy work from Cemetery Road, Talta, through the gorge to Sllverstream to facilitate railway work which may be authorised and undertaken in the future.
