Amateur Title Contest Opens i (Rec. August 31, 9.30 p.m.) Sydney, August 31. Match play for the amateur and professional golf titles began to-day in ideal weather. Ivo Whitton, who won the open title on Saturday, failed to reproduce his best form in the amateur sectiqn and was beaten by Russell, 5 and 4. .
