Attempted to Burn Hotel REFUSED A DRINK By Telegraph—-Press Association. Christchurch, August 31. For attempting to burn down a hotel at Kaikoura, Edward Laxton Smith, aged 20, was admitted to probation for three years and ordered to take out a prohibition order. It was stated that Smith had been refused a drink and that he lit some paper under the hotel, but caused no serious damage. Previouly. lie had burned down an old building which was untenanted.
