TRIAL AND SENTENCE
Napier Supreme Court By Telegraph—Press Association., Napier, August 20. Sentences were imposed in the Supremo Court to-day by Mr. Justice Blair as follow:— Leonard John Cookson, escaping from gaol, two years’ hard labour, and for breaking and entering 18 months’ hard labour, concurrent. Fred Matthews, alias Scott, breaking and entering and theft, three years’ hard labour, to be followed by two years’ reformative, Matthews entered an explosive magazine and stole quantities of gelignite. He expressed an intention of an extensive crime campaign with a machine-gun, car and armed companions. Jonathan Ilex Swarbrick, theft of sheep, two years' probation. Frank Edward Yates, breaking, entering and theft following the earthquake, 18 months’ hard labour and declared an habitual criminal,
