THE COMPETITIONS

Demonstration Concert APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE Items of varied character were again given at the Town Hall on Saturday when the Wellington competitions were continued. Competitive classes occupied the morning and afternoon, and the evening was devoted to a demonstration concert when three of the judges and about 25 first prize-winners gave musical, elocutionary, or dancing items, which were appreciated by the audience. Mr. C. N. Baeyertz, the elocutionary judge, was encored for his humorous items, Mr. W. H. Dixon, adjudicator of the vocal section, Was recalled after his bracket of negro spirituals, and Mr. Ernest Jenner, who judged the pianoforte classes, gave an exhibition of his art in three miniatures from Glazounov.

Vocal items' by Mrs, Edith Pengelly, Miss Grace Nixon, Mr, R. Trewern, and Mr. G. F. Whitehorn, Miss Olga Hancock, Miss V. Ashenden, Miss M. Freeman, and Miss F. Eyre; pianoforte items by Miss N. Pargetta, and Miss N. CapeWilliamson; elocutionary numbers by Miss N. de Clifton, Miss L. Kennedy, Miss Mavis Windsor, Miss Grace Nixoii, Miss K. Bartosh, Miss J. Hould,’" and Mr. Errol Muir; instrumental items by Miss R. Reece. Miss Rule, rind Messrs. S. Seaton and C. Soul, nnd dances of varied character by Master B. Ashbridge and Miss M. Doney, Miss M. Oates, Miss J. O’Connor. Miss H. Martin, Miss Scott, Miss A. Burnette, and Master C. Stewart, comprised the prize-winners’ section of an enjoyable entertainment.
