VACUUM TINNED BUTTER
■ I ■ ■ x • “Likely to be Big Demand” Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, August 29. “The latest Information we have had Is that there is likely to be a big demand for butter in one pound pats packed under the new vacuum packing process, and the directors have been seriously considering adopting tho process,” sa|d Mr. ,T. A. Nash, M.P., at the annual general meeting of the New Zealand Farmers’ Dairy Union Ltd., which was held to-day. "Butter sent home packed In vacuum tins opened up in perfect condition, and it had been suggested that if arrangements made with chain stores for continuous and regular monthly shipments, a premium of about 20/- per. cwt on the present prices would be obtained, and as the additional cost of the new method of packing would be only 8/6 per cwt., a greater return would be possible to the farmers." ‘ "It Is possible,” .concluded Mr. Nash. ’ that a factory for vacuum packing would be established at Palmerston North. In any case, the directors are watching the position very closely.”
