Campbell Intercepted a pass to t J’ e J in sj i f „ r ( . 0 ] S Balloch, and sent to Dunsmuir. Nicolle tried to shoot, but the ball went behind. Auckland Scores. From the goal-kick Christie gained possession, and sent through as Campbell closed on him. Away dashed the advance .guard, Duffil and iVotherspoon beaten. McMillan had the ball, and Ell was expecting him to shoot, when Kay rushed alongside and slammed it through into goal at a pace Ell could not hold. Wellington | ' Some smart passing Was done on the right-wing by Nicolle and Dunsmuir, ending in Nicolle placing across goal, but Leslie’s attempt went wide. A minute later McLeod put him in possession again, and he slipped past the backs to put the ball into the end of the rigging outside. Both Kay and McLeay were given off-side when Auckland worked up to a danger-ous-looking attack. An inside movement by Leslie and Dunsmuir gave Nicolle a chance, 1 but he shot wildly over the top. “The Auckland passing was more accurate than Wellington’s, and the Wellington backs were not too sound In anticipation. Craig received from Campbell and sent to Leslie, but Tinkler headed away. Again Craig sent across a lovely centre, Nicolle’s first-timer being too wide. Going through the centre, Morrison sent to Blackie, whose shot went right to Ell in goal. Swerving to avoid Kay, Ell nearly took the ball in goal and gave a corner. Like a shot play was transferred to the other end. where Zuill saved a header from Leslie. Kay missed a glorious opportunity only three yards out after the Auckland forwards had nonplussed the defence. The Wellington backs were weak, and gave the attack too much latitude. There was no further score before half-time.

Visitors Well Held. Wellington opened well, Campbell winging to Nicolle, who put a beautiful fast eentre right across the goal-mouth. In dashed Leslie in grand style for a header, but Zuill took the ball practically off his head. McLeod and Campbell were working with a good understanding, and opened up the wings well. Craig appeared a little timid in tackling Gerrard, and allowed the back to clear when a tackle might have benefited the Wellington side. For a quarter of an hour Wellington had the better of the exchanges, although no score came. Campbell was Often in the picture, getting possession five tiraes out of six. A splendid effort came after Wellington had cleared a corner, Campbell receiving from Hanlon. He put Nicolle in possession and a centre gave Leslie an opening. A terrific drive went in, and Zuill made a wonderful save, and then saved again as McLeod returned with an overhead kick right into the goal-mouth. Craig came within an ace of netting, the ball only missing by inches. Wellington's defence still had little to do, and Campbell, holding up McLeay, sent the ball to Nicolle to centre. Leslie passed to Craig, whose shot went over. Then the Auckland defence was given a gruelling time. McLeod centred and Leslie shot for Zuill to save. Nicolle returned and Leslie headed, and again the goalie kept his charge intact. Campbell finally had a shot over the bar. Next time the centre-half put to Craig, and a lovely centra gave Leslie a chance to head, but

Zuill seemed to be inspired and saved again? McLeay had to retire through injury. Christie was a big factor in the Auckland defence, giving Tinkler and Gerrard great help. Only on very few occasions did the Auckland advance guard penetrate very far into Wellington territory during the second spell. Wellington did most of "the attacking, and it was mainly Zuill's splendid work in goal that saved the visitors.

The Winning Goal. Just on time, Hanlon and Craig were in combination, when Hanlon at 30 yards sent in a drive which had Zuill beaten.
