MUSIC AND CREATION
Illustrating Ms lecture by means of pianoforte examples, Mr. E. Douglas-Tay-ler, late Director of Musical Education, who is shortly leaving for California, addressed the Theosophical Society last evening upon "Music and Creation.” Mr. Tayler said that . a continuous process of creation and distinction was going ■ on, while man was building up his soul. ■ Tracing the development of music, he said that the Old Testament music was that of groups, or nations, but that of the great composers of modern times carried the spirit of the individual. All early music was recognised to have a divine origin, as was illustrated by legends such as that of Orpheus, but to-day the folk song was a thing of the past. During; the lecture, which was Mr. Tayler’s final , public address in New Zealand, Mrs. Tay- j ler and Master David Tayler gave items.
