AID FOR PLUNKET FUNDS

Dance at Porirua j The Porirua branch of the Coastal j Towns Sub-branch of the Pluket Society held a successful dance iii the Social Hall of the Mental .Hospital, Porirua, on August 18, when *3OO people, including Dr. Gray (Director-General of Mental Hospitals) and Mrs. Gray were present. The proceeds were in aid of building and general funds, which will benefit considerably through the generosity of the supporters of the society in the district who contributed the supper. During the evening Dr. Gray spoke on the good, work which was being carried out by the Clunker Society. Mrs. It. W. Bothamley (patron), Mrs. Williams (president), and the committee apreciate the generous thought of Dr. Gray in granting the uSe of the hall, ano also wish to thank the z following Messrs. G. Colley and F. Armes for so tastefully decorating the hall, Dr. Williams, Mesrs. F. Oliver, A. Clark, and H. Vickers for assisting at the dance, and Miss Atkins for her valuable assistance with the supper arrangements. Mrs. G. Hughes and the secretary were the hostesses for the evening. Messrs. G. Hughes and G. Colley were M.C.’s.. Music was supplied by Mr. ». Brown's orchestra. Many original costumes were worn by the children who attended an enjoyable children’s fancy dress party organised by the Makuri Women’s Institute and held in the Makuri Hall one afternoon last week. A Dutch dance was contributed to the afternoon’s entertainment bv two small Masterton girls, Barabara Morgan and Joyce Mulvaney. Baca child was given n balloon and a basket of sweets on sitting down to the afternoon tea, the ’arrangements for which were carried out by members of the institute. Dr. Alexander Wilson, Mrs. Wilson and Miss Betty Wilson, of Wanganui, intend to return to New Ze,aland la<.e in November. , Mrs. C. D. Kernohan, Wanganui, and Miss Dalziell, left on Thursday for a trip to Honolulu and the islands. Tucy expect to be away about six weeks. An enjoyable tinic s was spent by the large attendance present at the Mauriceville Dairy Company's annual ball held at Mauriceville last week. The hall was artistically decorated with cerise and green streamers and balloons and coloured paper, which covered the walls. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mlnifie’s Orchestra, while extras were contributed by Mr. I’. Heaven nnd Miss Peterson, The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. 11. Mortensen, who was assisted by the staff. The women’s committee responsible for the supper arrangements comprised Mesdanies Watkins, Dawton. Neilson, Johansen, Heaven, and Misses D. Palmer, I’. Heaven, R. Lemberg, R. Mortensen, B, Johansen, McGovern. The ball ‘ committee consisted of Messrs. IV. P. Carter, G. Watkins, H. Mortensen, C. Stack, G. Christopherson. IL Neilson and Misses Palmer and Heaven. A great deal of the success of the ball was due to the' work of the joint secretaries, Miss D. Palmer and Mr. R. Watkins.
