TROTTING

Auckland Meeting To-day REVIEW OF FORM (By "Overcheck.”) The first meeting of the new season as far as the North Island is concerned is that of the Auckland Trotting Club, which’will be held to-day. The fields are of nice size, and the contestants of fairly even calibre, so that the racing should be of an interesting nature. The programme is as follows: — INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP, of 150 One mile and a half. Black Ball.’n . scr Zanzibar .... 24 Grand Triumph scr Colonel Thorpe 36 Katalo scr Kitty’s Patch . 36 Moko Girl .... scr Windchat ... 36 Win Huon .... scr Carl Mack .... 48 Bessie Parrish 12 Parrish Belie . 84 Gold Realm ... 24 Of those on scratch Win Huon has the best form, but he appears to be too close

to Bessie Parrish, who registered two wins and a second last season. h€T pest effort being her 4.2 3-8 over 13 furlongs at the Waikato in May. This is equal to a gait of about 3.44 for twelve, furlongs. Of the others Kitty Patch and Carl Mack may receive most support. The latter .went 3.41 3-5 at Northlands in January, while Kitty Patch won at Carterton over two miles in 4.59 3-5. She usually races solidly, and this should help her materially in securing a prominent position when the liny. is crossed. MOUNT EDEN HANDICAP, ot 150 sovs,; 3.0 class. One mile and a quarter. Bismuth scr Student Prince scr Derby Vale ... scr Clean 12 Elcawah scr Oliver Thorpe • 12 Great Fame ... scr Jersey Thorpe . 12 Grey Mist .... scr Kewpie’s Margaret Triumph 12 Wallace scr Silver Link ... 12 .Mazda scr Whakahihl ... 12 Modern Light scr Jackie Thorne . 24 Moko Chief ... scr Peter Lloyd .. 36 Prince Etawah scr Marionette ... 48 Sir Moko scr In such a large field some interference may be expected, especially in the early stages. Of the scratch section Great Fame and Moko Chief appear to have the best credentials. Oliver Thorpe won over ten furlongs at Cambridge in, 2.54 2-5, while Kewpie’s Triumph registered 3.29 4-5 at Thames over a mile and a half. With an even dispatch Marionette should account for those round about her, but she has proved unreliable at the barrier in the past. Great Fame and Oliver Thorpe may be best. AUGUST HANDICAP, of 400 sovs.; 4.34 class. Two miles. Ayrmont Enawah 12 Chimes scr Great Delight . 12 Hal Chimes .... scr Meteor 12 Trustworthy .. ser Gold Treasure . 24 Auto Machine . 12 Stanmoor ... 24 In the August Handicap Ayrmont Chimes, Auto Machine, and Meteor are likely to be in most demand. Ayrmont Chimes won a double at the recent Addington meeting, while Meteor also raced successfully. It has also to be remembered that in June last he registered 4.24 2-5 when he ran second to Dillon Logan. Auto Machine is an Australian horse. He raced only once last season, giving a disappointing showing, but it appears certain that he will race better on thijs occasion. However, it is difficult to go part Meteor, who will be equally at home be the going fast or slow. - , - ONEHUNGA HANDICAP, of 175 sovs.; 4.42 class. Two miles, Bonniewah .. set Brutus 60 Kewpie’s Guy .. 12 Dealer 60 Dan Direct .... 24 Tumatakura .. 72 Gold Sovereign 48 In the Onehunka Handicap Kewpic s Guy, Dan Direct, and Bonniewah may do best. The first-named won five races last year, and showed more than average promise. Her best performance from a time point of view was registered at Auckland in February, when she went 4.36 3-5. Dan Direct went 4.37 3-5 at Hawera in April, and has raced well since. Bonniewah won at Carterton in December In 4.40 2-5, and off the front will have every chance. Kewpie’s Guy will no doubt be 'favourite. ROYAL OAK HANDICAP, of 175 sovs.; 4.46 class. Two miles. Valloden .... scr Etta Cole 72 Wimmera King scr Jock Bingen .. <2 Explosion ... 12 Paradigm ... 72 In the Royal Oak Handicap Valloden will no doubt be in demand, but the form so far displayed by him in_the Dominion has been disappointing. Explosion has been working well on the track, and if ne repeats that form he would fake all sorts of beating. Jock Bingen, Etta Cole, and Paradigm aye a useful trio. Of the three Etta Cole is probably the speediest, but at times she has not raced steadily. It she maintains a correct gait throughout she may cat®} most trouble to Explosion and Valloden. MASSEY MEMORIAL HANDICAP, of 200 sovs.; 2.52 claps. One mile and a Bonniewah .... scr Master Hula .. 24 Carnul scr Woodvale ... 24 Dad’s Hope .... scr Ayrmont Gaza scr Chimes 06 Hohora J scr Benefice 36 Kewpie’s Guy . scr Daytime .... 36 Dealer 12 Great Parrish 36 Dan Direct .... 24 Great Delight .. 48 The handicaps m the Massey Memorial Handicap will be altered somewhat as a result of the decisions in earlier events, but on the handicaps as they stand those likely to be in demand are Kewpie s Guy, Ayrmont Chimes, Benefice, and Great Parrish, the latter being a stablemate of the first-named. Great Parrish is a brilliant young horse, and at Auckland last Daeember ran third to Red Shadow and Arethusa, registering 3.20 2-5 for ten furlongs, after meeting with trouble about two furlongs from home. If he is. Produced in hm best .form it is difficult to pick one to beat him. GREY LYNN HANDICAP, of 150 sovs.; 3.34 class. One mile and a half. Cleab scr Q •• scr< Jackie'Thorpe scr Whakahihl,.... scr Kewpie’s E O ," 7 8 ture ol Triumph scr, Prince Pedro .. -4 Moko Chief-... scr Reliance 36 Oliver Thorpe . scr Some Dillon .. 46 Prince Etawah scr Lady Yvonne . 48 In the Grey Lynn Handicap Gleao, OU-

ver Thorpe, and Prince Pedro are a likely trio. The latter went 3.26 when he won over 12 furlongs at Hawera, and is very well in on a 3.32 mark. He will no doubt be favourite. ORAKEI HANDICAP (saddle), of ISO sovs.: 2.20 class. One mile. Derby Vale .. scr Gold Sovereign 12 Jersey Thorpe scr Marionette ... 12 Modern Light scr Reliance 12 Our Peter scr Dad’s Hope.... 36 Peter Lloyd .. set Hohora" 36 Satin Bird .... scr Brutua ~.4.... 36 Student Prince scr The day’s racing will be brought to • close with the Orakei Handicap, a mile saddle event. Our Peter won a simitar class of event at Thames, going 2.18. Marionette ip the type of horse that is well suited finder saddle, and at Ndrtmanja won in 2.14 1-5. Of the others Dad * Hope may receive most support. Marionette will no doubt be favourite.
