Air Manoeuvres in Europe OVER DARKENED TOWN Italians Attack in Waves FRENCH USE 900 PLANES By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright (Rec. August 27, 7.80 pan.) London, August 27. French and Italian air manouevres began last night. The French manoeuvres are being held over the town of Nancy, which is In darkness, the blinds of the shops and houses being closely drawn. Motorists are not allowed an inside light. Sirens will sound and church bells will ring for three minutes if the attacking squadrons penetrate the city’s defences, whereupon all railway trains’ lights for a distance of 50 miles round must be extinguished. Even signal lights must be out. A total of 900 aeroplanes are engaged in the French manoeuvres. Italy’s manoeuvres Include attacks on specified objectives by successive 'waves each of 50 machines. The air battles will be wirelessly directed. British air manoeuvres, were held over south-eastern England on July 21, when 200 machines took part.
