Heavy Decline in Total Imports BRITISH CARS GAIN Motor vehicle imports into New Zealand during the first six months of 1931 were the lowest for any corresponding period for nine years. The total of 2629 cars, chassis, and commercial vehicles was a decrease of 6354 on the total imported during the first half of last year. The dutiable value of the imports was £388,032, compared with £1,375,158 for the corresponding period last year.' Following are details of the’ imports of motor vehicles and chassis of all types during the first six months of every year since 1922:—

The total of 2629 vehicles imported included 2259 cars and car chassis, the remainder being commercial types. Although imports in the aggregate have fallen so largely, the fall has been confined to Canadian and American productions. British cars and car chassis actually showed a slight improvement on last year, and constituted nearly two-thirds of the total imports.
