Thirty-four relief workers were caught by the tide and marooned for three hours on a stepbank they were erecting at Kush Elat for the Eoxton Harbour Board on Monday. The m< n started work in the morning as usual despite a howling westerly gale. The river was in flood, and when the tide commenced to rise it was backed up by the gale ami the water soon reached Rush Flat, which was inundated. The men had to wade through water up to their waists to get ashore.
