CLIFF RESCUE
Injured Youth’s Long Wait SPECIAL TRACK CUT ■ By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, July 5. While exploring at-the base of St. Clair Cliffs, near Dunedin, this afternoon, a youth named Darcy Christopher, who resides at Kennedy Street, St. Clair, had his ankle badly crushed by a stone which became dislodged from a cliff face. Together with another youth, William Scott, Christopher had found his way down the path and climbed along the narrow stony beach for about a quarter of a mile before the accident occurred. Unable to assist his mate in any way, Scott hastened back to the cliff top and got a message to the police, who, with members of the ambulance and fire brigades, were soon on the spot Working in darkness and under great difficulties, the party was able to get Dr. Murray down to the injured youth, but on account of the conformation of the cliff near the point where the injured youth was lying, it was found necessary to cut a track along the cliff to enable rescuers to bring him to the top.
After four hours’ work, Christopher was brought to the top of the cliff at 9.30 p.m. He was carried along the path, and was hauled with ropes up the remainder of the distance.
