lONIC DELAYED
Twenty Firemen Missing SIX HOURS’ WAIT Shortly before the Shaw, Savill liner lonic was timed to leave Wellington on Saturday afternoon for Southampton and London, it was discovered that some twenty firemen were missing from the ship. As there were no signs of the missing men by 4 o’clock the lonic pulled out into the stream and dropped anchor to await their return. Several hours later the recalcitrant firemen began to assemble on the wharf and shortly before 9 o'clock the whole score of them were waiting, shivering in the stiff, chilly northerly wind, to be taken out. to the liner. Escorted by the police, the men were ta,ken aboard and the vessel finally started on her Homeward voyage shortly before 9.30 p.m., after having been delayed for about six hours.
