Orr Wins 23-mile Event WIND UNFAVOURABLE Conditions were not altogether favourable for the 23-mile road cycling event conducted on Saturday afternoon by the Port Nicholson Amateur Road Cycling Club,. affiliated to the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. There was a cross- wind which affected riders most of the way, and the day was a cold one. The race was .won by G. Orr, from the 6-minute mark, and P. N. .Robinson made fastest time. Ten riders started. _ The course, ran from the Petoije Rowing Club’s shed up the Hutt Valley and baek again, a distance of IS miles, and the riders then traversed an extra five-miie course. „„ , At the turn, on the first IS-milc stretch, the scratch men, P. N. Robinson and F. Christensen, had caught up a minute and 'a half on the nearest men. S. Webber and C. F Johnston, who rode from the 21minutc .mark. P. Eyton (Bmin.), who had picked up E. Millner, (llmin.) turned first. G. Puniti (4min.), who had dropped his co-marker, E. R. Poulton, at the Hutt Bridge on the way out, had gained 30 seconds at the turn on Webber and Johnston. R. Lyster (Grain.), 'with Eyton and Orr, were the first past the starting point at the end of 18 miles, and Puniti came along a minute or two later, riding strongly. Christensen, Robinson and Johnston were the next. Orr, Eyton and Lyster came in together, and sprinted across the line within a length of each other. Puniti came in on bis own, and three back-markers a few minutes later. P. N. Orr • ....' 4 . 27-MILE ROAD RACE Point Halswell-Breaker Bay Against a stiff northerly the Port Nicholson Amateur Cycling Club (Inc.), N.Z.U.C., held a 27-mile,race over two circuits of the -Point Halswell-Breaker Bay course on Saturday. Twenty-one men faced the starter. Seven miles out during the first time round, Williams and Taylor led the field, closely followed by Aldridge. Wishart, and Amos, and then a bunch of seven riders. L. Roberts (scr.). a few miles further on, had gained a minute on the field. C. Tasker (scr.) and J. Foote (scr.) had punctures, and dropped out. In the second time round Aldridge and Williams were leading the field, closely followed by Taylor, Wishart. Campbell, and Grant. L. Roberts and Blackett (2min.) were next, and looked likely for first and second places. A. Dickey-fell, and Bander, Amos, and McCache were unlucky with punctures. Tasker broke a bar of his machine. Results are as follow: —L. Roberts (set.). 1. and fastest time (68min. 46 2-o sec.) ; F. Blackett (2min., and second fastest time (70min. 50sec.) ; J. Campbell (4Jmin ), 3 (74min. 30sec.); P. Grand (4Jmin.), 4 (75min. 25see,). There were eleven starters in a junior five-mile race, results of-which are as follow:—R .Elliott (2min.), 1 (13min. 44 see.) ; F. Crichley (2jmin.). 2 (14min. 2sec.); C. Sparks (IJmin.), 3. T. Udall ser.) finished fourth, and gained fastest time, llmin. 17sec. C. Crockford (Jmin.) secured second fastest time with llmin. BSisec.. and G. Pennington (scr.). third., with 12min. 52sec.
