AID FOR NEEDY
Supplies from Country FARMERS’ ACTIVITY Dominion Special Service. Masterton, July 4. Support for the Mayor of Wellington’s unemployment relief fund is forthcoming from as far away as Eketahuna. The Eketahuna branch of the Farmers’ Union, at a meeting yesterday, decided to take steps to endeavour to forward foodstuffs and clothing and vegetables to the Mayor’s relief depot at Wellington and set up an organising committee. It was stated that there should be no difficulty in raising a truck of sheep. Mr. A. B. Tomlinson observed that while the farmers were not in a good position they were not starving, and they could not stand by and see people starving in the cities. Though the farmers might not be able to contribute materially in cash, there was a great deal they could do in the way of providing foodstuffs, and perhaps wearing apparel. Mr. Tomlinson’s remarks met with the full, approval of the meeting, and an organising committee was set up as follows:— Messrs. C. T. Richardson (Eketahuria), A. B. Tomlinson (Rongomai), A. and O. Falkner (Kaiparoro), J. F. Bilby (Rongokokaro), A. G. Golder (Nireaha), C. Cooper (Newman), and T.' R. Hancock* (Putara).
