GANGSTER’S ARREST

Charged With Taxi Murder

Sydney, June 19.

As a sequel to the Maroubra shooting, in which Frederick Moffitt, a taxi-cab driver, was found dead at the wheel of his machine, James Devine, husband of “Tilly” Devine, was charged with the murder of Moffitt.

In January of last year James Devine was arrested on a charge of murdering Bernard Dalton, who was shot during a gang feud fight outside a Sydney hotel. Later, however, he was released, and another underworld figure, Frank Green, stood trial, and was acquitted.
