Gazing at an antique dealer’s win dow, a New Zealand farmer, William McNatight Cavan, and his wife were charmed by a well-dressed .stranger’s interest and offer to guide them sight seeing next day, when the inevitable passer-by dropped a rosary. This led to the old story that he was arranging charitably to distribute an uncle’s legacy of £BO,OOO. Mr. Cavan handed over a wallet containing £lOO in proof of his bona tides to act as dis tributor in New Zealand. He and his wife vainly waited an hour in a restaurant for the confidence men’s return.

A few weeks ago “The Dominion” published the story of n Wellington man who was defrauded of n large sum of money by the “rosary trick.” Tlie circumstances were the same except for the fact that the rosary was dropped in a church.
