Sentenced to-day to a period of reformative detention not exceeding twelve months, Albert Henry Earle Holmes was found guilty of indecent assault on a girl of six by a jury at yesterday’s sitting of the Supreme Court. For accused, Mr. G. W. Currie said that it was his first offence of this nature. His Honour Mr. Justice Blair said that he would take into consideration the fact that accused had been in custody since January 24, and that leniency had been asked for. “I hope that this will’he a lesson to you,” he said. Wilson Potaka. found guilty of carnal knowledge by a jury at the Supreme Court yesterday, with a rider recommending leniency, was admitted to-day to three years’ probation. He was defended by Mr. Mac Lean, and Mr. N. R. Bain xyas Crown Prosecutor. A plea of not guilty was entered. On receiving the rider, his Honour Mr. Justice Blair said that he always appreciated help from the jury. He ordered the costs of the prosecution to be paid by Potaka in such proportions as the probation officer thinks fit.
