MORE BRITISH POLICE
War on Modern Criminals Increases of £450,000 in the Government grants to the police of England and Wales, as shown in the Civil Service Estimates, will be mainly spent in coping with the most modern developments in crime. It is understood that a large part of the additional grant will be devoted to Scotland Yard, which has been urging the necessity for an increase of personnel for the past twelve months. Over two hundred new detectives will be added to the Criminal Investigation Department, and substantial reinforcements for the uniform branch, long overdue, may be expected. Mobile police will also claim some of the Increase, while additions to the women police have been sanctioned and will make further inroads on the forthcoming year’s grant. Mechanical improvements will be introduced at Scotland Yard in the shape of new tape machines, wireless, and motor-coxa.
