Recount of Votes ALTERATIONS IN PETONE Throughout Thursday and yesterday a recount of votes polled in the municipal elections in Lower Hutt, Petone, and Eastbourne was being engaged in. Alterations have occurred in all the figures, and in the case of the Petoue representatives on the Petone and Hutt Gas Lighting Board an alteration in position has occurred, a sitting member, Mr. W. P. Watkinson, being supplanted by Mr. A. Scholefield, of the Labour ticket. The recount of votes in Upper Hutt will take place to-day. In the following figures, the recounts are given first, the figures announced on. the night of the poll following in parentheses:— LOWER HUTT. Council: Archibald Grierson, 1702 (1620); Alexander Mcßain, 1685 (1599); Alexander Anderson, 1079 (1577); Frank Campbell, 1052 (1571); Douglas Smith, Patrick, 1651 (1568); Albert Barton Ginger, 1509 (1415); John Mitchell, 1380 (1303) ; Walter George Meldrum, 1370 (1306); William Henry Wilson, 1302 (1365). These are elected. The unsuccessful candidates are: Eric Francis Rothwell, 1344 (1281); James Eric Napier, 1160 (1082); Albert Edwin Sergent, 1017 (952); Albert Frederick William Jackson, 951 (874). Informal votes, 65 (52). Hutt and Petone Gas Board: William Thomas Strand, 1973 (1858); Walter George Meldrum, 1700 (1608). These two were elected. The unsuccessful candidate was Albert Frederick William Jackson, 882 (905). Hospital Board: James Whitton, 1697 (1527), was elected. Alfred James Nicholls, 1423 (1240), was the unsuccessful candidate. PETONE. Council: John Campbell Burns, 1473 (1477); Roderick William Toomath, 1445 (1428): Victor Albert Noble, 1429 (1436); Herbert Alfred Ryder, 1428 (1444); Eric Thomas Edward Hogg. 1421 (1427); John Walter Longman, 1381 (1387); Albert Scholefield. 1333 (1336); Christopher Brockelbank, 1320 (1326); Victor Emmanuel Jacobson, 1313 (1327). These were elected. The unsuccessful candidates were: William Pomfret Watkinson, 1298 (1306); Edward Norman Campbell, 1259 (1262); James Cumming, 1255 (1254); William Herbert Edwards, 1144 (1148); Joseph Huggan, 1027 (1032); James Ashby, 1015. Informal votes, 147 (122). Petone and Hutt Gas Lighting Board. Christopher Parker Brockelbank, 1388 (1377); Albert Scholefield, 1322 (1292). These are elected. The unsuccessful candidates are: William Pomfret Watkinson, 1313 (1324); Arthur Llewellyn Pritchard, 937 (926). Informal votes, 47. Hutt Valley Electric Power Board: John William McEwan. 1774 (1773); Leonard Stewart, 1657 (1658). These were elected. The unsuccessful candidates were: Joseph Huggan, 827 (815); Ernest Howard Garrett, Jackson Street Widening Loan: For the proposal, 1313 (1186); against the proposal, 400. Informal votes, 03. EASTBOURNE. Council: William Francis Hornig, nW (552); Archibald Walker, 548 (542): Margaret Magill, 528 (545); Ernest Norman Battersby, 526 (518); Arthur (504); Charles Arthur Rendle, 476 (470), John Frederick Roekstrow, 457 (459), Edward Wellesley Wise, 456 (447). These were elected. The unsuccessful candidate was Douglas TOdd, 454 (444).
