TOWN WIPED OUT

Fire Disaster in Japan

700 HOUSES DESTROYED

(Rec. May 7, 11 p.m.). Tokio, May 7.

Yamanaka, a hot-springs resort, was wiped out by fire this morning. The loss is estimated at £5,000,000. More than 700 dwellings and 30 hotels were destroyed. It is feared that there is a considerable death roll which, however, is not yet reported.

Yamanaka lies about 50 miles to the south-west of Tokio.
