TRAINING COLLEGE DANCE
Visiting Students Entertained
One of the most delightful dances yet held at the Training College was given by the Wellington students on Wednesday evening in honour of the <4 visiting students from the Christchurch college. Nearly 400 dancers gathered in the spacious assembly hall, which was festooned' with streamers of royal blue, gold and maroon, the combined colours ot botii colleges. Upon the stage, which was comfortably furnished tor the official party, bowls of autumn leaves, berries and chrysanthemums were arranged. The supper rooms were similarly decorated. Another effective decorative touch was given tlie dance room by humorous dials drawings depicting tournament scenes upon the blackboarding surrounding the walls. . , ~ A novel item given by the ineu ol the visiting teams was an exhibition tap-, dance ballet. Hakes were also given by both colleges. During the evening the opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr. Purchase, whose retirement takes place shortly. Speeches expressing appreciation of Mr. Purchase’s work in connection with the training colleges were made by the student presidents and by Mr. Lomas, the principal. In. the official party were: Mr. lurchase, principal of the Christchurch Training College, and Mrs. Purchase, Mr. E. K. Lomas, principal of the Wellington Training College, Mrs. T. B. Strong, Mr. and Mrs. Waghorn. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Mackinnon, Miss Ironside (Christchurch), Miss Irving Smith, Miss Loy, Miss M. G. Thornton, Miss Murison. Miss S. Wilson, Miss Lowry. Mr. and Mrs. Kidson, Mr. Brew and Mr. Campbell.
