NOT MUCH FAVOUR

Standardised Cheese

FARMERS’ UNION REMIT

Standardised cheese found little favour with the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at its quarterly meeting yesterday. There were three remit bearing on the subject, and the first of these, from Otago, urged that the question of prohibiting the export of standardised cheese should be taken up again. Two remits came from South Tatanaki, the first of which had the same aim as the Otago one, but these were withdrawn after the latter had been passed almost unanimously. The text of the Otago remit was: “That

the Dominion executive be urged, to again take up the question of prohibiting the export of standardised ehpese. This provincial executive (Otago) is strongly opposed to the export even under the present amended regulations, and urges that the export of standardised cheese be prohibited.”

In moving this, Mr. E. H. Murney said it was very pleasing to note that the feeling was growing .against the export of standardised eheese. He was very gratified to see that Taranaki was coming round. The South Island, of course, had always been against it. Mr. E. J. Betts (South Taranaki), in seconding, said that standardised cheese was ruining the trade. It was n< h fair to their customers, and the whole thing should be abolished. After a brief discussion the’remit was carried.
