SOCIAL NOTES

Mr. and Mrs. Barren, Dunedin, have left for Wellington. Mrs. Wilson Smith has, returned to Auckland from a visit to Wellington.

Mrs. R. Carmody has returned to Christchurch after a holiday spent in "Wellington. Mrs. N. Newell, of Wellington, is registered at the United Service Hotel, Christchurch.

Miss Jocelyn Fish, Feilding, passed through Wellington yesterday on her return from Christchurch. Miss'Celia Coombe, of Milton, has returned from Wellington, where she was the guest of Commissioner Wohlmann.

Miss Al. Watson, Christchurch, arrives in Wellington on Saturday to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute. Miss Beryl Houghton, of Gladstone Road, Parnell, Auckland, is visiting Wellington, where she is the guest of Miss JI. Rose, Clifton Terrace.

Miss Katherine Austin; England, who has been visiting Dunedin, left Christchurch on Tuesday night for Wellington to join the Monowai for Sydney, en route to England. Miss B. Lace and Miss M. Hai-dey will be Christchurch delegates to the Women Teachers’ Annual Conference, to be held in Wellington toward the end of next week. Miss June Mitchell and Miss Joy. Mitchell, of Cheltenham, England, who have been spending a six months’ fishing holiday in. the Dominion, left by the Niagara on’ their return to England.

Mr. R. AV. Gregg and Miss Gregg, London, left Christchurch yesterday for the Franz Josef Glacier. They will return to the north via Pieton, and leave later from Auckland for England. Miss Millicent Kennedy, St. Albans, Christchurch, will leave on Saturday for Wellington to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute.

The hostesses for the Croydon old boys’ dance to be held on Tuesday next are Sirs. Sprott, Sirs. G. Shirtcliffe, Sirs. A. E. Slabin. Sirs. E. G. E. Zohrab, Sirs. H. E. Evans, and Sirs. C. H. T. Skelly. Siiss Sfaudc Hoyden, the well-known preacher, ..who visited New Zealand in 1929, is to receive from Glasgow University the honorary degree of doctor of divinity. Miss Royden will be the first woman minister to be “capped” D.D.in Great Britain. Siiss SI. E. Sims, of the Girls’ High School staff, will leave Christchurch on Saturday to attend the executive meeting of the Now Zealand Secondary Schools’ Assistants’ Association, which will be held in Wellington early next week. Nurse IV. .Sims, matron of the Barfield Hospital, will accompany her sister to Wellington, where she will spend a holiday.
