First Round of Championship

Surrey, first innings, 258 (Hobbs 65, Gregory 68, Parker seven wickets for 128); second, 60 for six wickets, declared (Parker four for 25). Gloucester, first Innings 175 for_ seven wickets,, declared (Slnfield not out' 71), and second 145 for seven wickets. Gloucester won by three wickets. Essex v. Kent. Essex, first innings,. 224 (O’Connor 100, Freeman eight wickets for 109); second 126 (Freeman 33 for seven wickets). Kent, first 397 (Hardinge 128, Ashdown 63). Kent won by an Innings and 47 runs. Leicester v. Derby. Leicester, first, 216 (Mitchell four for 56); second, 207 for five wickets. Derby, first, ‘ 224 (Geary four for 50). Derby won on the first innings. Warwick i. Glamorgan. Glamorgan, first, ISS; second, 205 (Paine four foy 47). Warwick, first, 120 (Mercer four for 38): second, 109 (Mercer eight for 42). Glamorgan won by 161 runs. Friendly matches resulted as follow:— Marylebone.,' first innings, 112 (Macau-/ lay four for 33, Verity five for 42); second, 65 for no wickets. Yorkshire, first, 227 for eight, declared (Hammond not out 58). Match drawn. Nottingham, first, 267 (Larwood not out 102, Wensley five for 97): second, 353 for seven, declared (Hardstaff not out 104). Sussex, first, 308 (Cook 69) ; second, 71 for one wicket. Match drawn.
