TEN PER CENT. CUT

Hospital Salaries & Wages BOARD’S DECISION Without discussion, the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday passed a resolution that all honoraria,, salaries and wages, excepting award wages, be reduced .10 ner cent. In the case of those paid monthly the reduction is to operate as from April 1, and in the case of those paid weekly as from April 30. In addition to this reduction, all members of the staff living-in, except first, second, third, and fourth-year nurses, will have the equivalent of 10 per cent, of the value of emoluments deducted from their salaries or wages. These conditions do not apply to appointments made since December 1, 1930, if t'he commencing salary is below schedule rate. . ■ . The new conditions are to remain in operation until December 31, 1932, when, according to resolution, the whole position will be reviewed by the board.

ANOTHER ECONOMY

On grounds of economy the Hospital Board decided yesterday that Dr. B. F. Aldred, medical officer in charge of the V.D. department, be given three months’ notice of the termination of his appointment. The chairman, Mr. F. Castle, said that Dr. Aldred had rendered very valuable service, but as he was one of the private practitioenrs who received £5OO a year from the board, the economy axe had fallen on him. It was proposed to reorganise the department. “I want to make it clear,” added the chairman, “that Dr. Aldred’s services are being dispensed solely on account of economy reasons.”
