HIS LAST BUDGET

Snowden’s Gloomy Belief SUPERHUMAN EFFORT Doctors Will Attend Him FORECASTS OF SPEECH By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Rec. April 27, 5.5 p.m.). London, April 26. Th® Cliancellor of th® Exchequer, Mr. Philip Snowden, believes that this will be his last Budget, says the Sunday Press. He lias risen from a sick bed by a superhuman effort. He has rejected all unorthodox schemes of business arising from the Budget concerning which there has been much mystery. The “Observer” says that land taxes are no doubt deliberately designed to force conclusions with the Peers. Nothing is more certain than that the Ministers, aided by Mr. Lloyd George, are laying a trap for the House of Lords.

“Reynold’s News,” which is usually well informed on Government affairs, says that Mr. Snowden’s proposed tax is likely to operate On Thursday, and a division on it will put the sincerity of the Liberals to the test, since a Government defeat will be followed by a general election on the dual issues of the taxation of the land monopoly and the abolition of the House of Lords.

According to a British Official Wireless message Mr. Snowden, on Friday, returned to Downing Street for the first time since his long and painful illness.. During the afternoon he attended a Cabinet meeting. He has made an excellent recovery, but is still under medical care and, as a precautionary measure, his two doctors will be present in the House of Commons on Monday, when he makes his annual Budget statement.

In order to prevent undue physical strain, it is expected that Mr. Snowden’s speech will be shorter than usual and will not last much more than an hour. He will probably curtail his references to the financial results of the past year, devoting most of his speech to his revenue proposals.
