GANGSTER WOUNDED

Diamond Again Under Fire ATTACK AT ROAD HOUSE (Rec. April 27, 10.30 p.m.) New York, April 27. Jack (“Legs”) Diamond, the notorious gangster, was critically wounded by shot-gun slugs in an Aera (New York) road house. He was seated with a companion at a meal when he suddenly rose and went to the door. Guests heard shots and found him on the floor. A passing fanner took him and his companion to the Albany Hospital. Diamond was shot In October, 1927, and again last October. Diamond’s life has been in danger ever since he returned from a visit to Europe. The notorious gangster, who is a young man, was deported from England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He arrived in the United States in September last, and scarcely a week had passed before he was critically wounded in a New York hotel, presumably by rival gangsters. _ He was removed to the Polyclinic Hospital, about which the police placed a guard following threats that the building would be bombed if he was not removed. Although the police believed the threat to be from a crank, they took no chances, because of reports that the gangsters enemies were resolved to finish him off as soon as possible. Diamond showed remarkable vitality and recovered. In addition to four bullet wounds it was proved he had been kicked and manhandled. His ribs were broken and an arm paralysed, in addition to which he was suffering from tuberculosis and intestinal disorder.
