WORK RESUMED
Unemployment Relief MEN BEING ENGAGED After a hiatus of a fortnight work for the unemployed under No. 5 scheme was resumed under new rules yesterday morning. As the requirements ot the new regulations are somewhat more searching than those of the old, the matter of registering the names or those prepared to take up work under the scheme and recording all particulars about each one took some time. Officials of the Labour Department were hard at it from early yesterday morning at Buckle Street until last evening. As a result about 400 men have been -placed on various works—at Rongotai, the Town Belt, the college grounds, Mount Cook, Happy Valley, and the new Troup Park at Kilbirnie. Another thousand men will be taken on to-day, and by to-morrow probably over 2000 will be at work under the revised scheme.
