OBITUARY

Mr. Allan Anderson

Mr. Allan Anderson, of Roxburgh Street, a member of one of Wellington s oldest and best respected families, died at Nurse Compton’s private hospital, Adelaide Road, at an early hour yesterday morning, after a very brief illness. The late Mr. Anderson was the youngest son of the late Mr. David Anderson, one of Wellington’s early settlers, who arrived here in 1849. and was born in Willis Street at. a time when most of the places in that thoroughfare were mostly residential. His brothers were the late Messrs.. David Anderson, in business tor vears in Molesworth Street; Mr. Edward Anderson, formerly of Willis Street; Mr. William Anderson, and Mr. Johu Anderson. formerly of Karori; and his sisters were Mrs. Ballance, wife of the late Mr. John Ballance (an ex-Premier of New Zealand) : and Miss A. Anderson, of Unper Willis Street. . , The late Mr. Allan Anderson was in business for some years in Wellington South, and later on the site of the De Luxe Theatre; indeed, he sold out. to tne theatre company, and at the same time retired from active business. The deceased, who was in his seventysixth vear, was a man of the kindliest and most generous nature, and was held in the greatest esteem by all who knew turn. He leaves a widow, two sons-—Allan (wno is in Melbourne), and Cecil—and one daughter, Miss Anderson, of Wellington. The remains are io be cremated. Mrs. M. A. Kelly The death occurred at Mastertoil on Tuesday of Mrs. M. A. Kelly, of Grandford House, Martinborough, reports a “Dominion” Special Service message. The late Mrs. Kelly, who had been in ill-health for about three months, was a former well-known and highly respected resident of Masterton. She was interested in musical and dramatic work, and was one of the foundation members of the Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society. For many years she was a member of the St. Matthew’s Church choir. She is survived by her husband and three daughters, and her mother, Mrs. J. Infield, a former resident of Masterlon. —
