Sir Hubert Wilkins’s Submarine. —These diagrams illustrate graphically the method by which Sir Hubert Wilkins proposes to voyage under the polar ice of the Arctic regions in his submarine, Nautilus, now being commissioned for its unique voyage of exploration. The upper picture shows the Nautilus breaking through thin surface ice with a patent wedge-shaped prow placed in front of the conning-tower. The lower picture shows the submarine travelling under thicker ice on an inverted skid, which will act as a guide. An article dealing with the Nautilus appears on page 9.
