The Mount Morgan mine works are threatened with destruction by a fire which began near the smelter blns on Monday night The hose-pipes are out of order owing to long idleness, and the mine pumps require replacements. A strong wind sprang up when the fire-fighters appeared to be getting the upper hand and drove the flames into the woodwork in all directions. The water supply is rapidly being exhausted. A large crude-oil tank and concentrators are in the path of the fire, which, if It jumps the break that has been made, will wipe out the works completely.
