Strong southerly winds, reaching gale force in places, especially on the East Coast south from Cook Strait. Seas heavy in Foveaux Strait; moderate north of Gastiepoint; elsewheie rough in New Zealand waters. Strong but decreasing southerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea; sea rough but moderating. Weather still changeable with showers in most districts; heavy on parts of the East Coast of the South Island. Improving soon in western districts. Cool temperatures.
