BLAY-THOMAS BOUT
Much Interest in Match That followers of boxing are not satisfied that Thomas was seen at anything like his true form in iris first appearance is indicated by the fact that practically all holders of preferential rlgihts exercised their option to book in advahco, when the plan opened yesterday for the match with Blay. The general booking plan opens this morning. Tho American has shown greatly improved speed and hitting power in Ms training work, while Blay should bo seen right at the top of his form. It may be said that his many supporters are not too confident as to the result of the meeting between the two, as it is known that Thomas is particularly suited to an exponent who forces the pace. The following are the preliminary contests: —White v. Wood, Strickland v. Hawker, Btllish v. Arbuthnot, Griffen v. McDonald, with one yet to be arranged. Charley Purdy, who has always been a popular favourite in Wellington, arrived from the north this morning, having decided to finish his training here in view ot tlie presence of the American contingent to help him in h.i.s ring work. He is due to meet Fairhall at West port ou March 2S.
