WIN FOR LAW

Insurance Men Beaten ANNUAL CRICKET “TEST” The time-honoured St. Patrick’s Day fixture between cricket teams representing Law and Insurance was played on Kelburn Park yesterday. Law, with a score of 265 for six wickets, won by four wiekets. The Insurance men won the toss, and with seven players, were well satisfied when they compiled 260 for the loss of the seven wickets. A. G. Wiren retired after making 102. Other scorers were: Christopherson 4, Griffiths 49, Duff 17, Robinson not out 35, Hanchard 13; Clarke 8. Elliott failed to score, but later justified his place by his excellent bowling. Williams and Hain took two wiekets each, and Arndt one. Robinson was run out. Under ordinary circumstances, a score of 260 is good enough to win, but the “Devil’s Own” prepared their briefs so well that it was not until 130 runs were on the board that the first wicket fell Pacey and Virtue. who was stumped, after scoring 56, were the opening batsmen for Law. and when Pacey registered his even century he retired. After this good start, Elliott, the Insurance googly bowler, did such good execution, that Williams, who hit out well for 43, and Arndt, who scored 24, were the only batsmen to do much. Other scorers were: Hain 4, Bailey 2, Osborn not out 17, Williams not out 43.
