Hardiman with the rejected model of the Hain statue While many critics admired the moulding of the features of the late Field-Marshal, the treatment of the horse aroused a storm of controversy in England. Lady Haig was one of the bitterest opponents to the proposed statue. The amended treatment is more satisfactory but has by no means met with universal approval.
