TREE-PLANTING
Beautifying Gear Island A latter from the Shandon Golf Club read at the meeting of the Hutt River Board asked whether the board was now agreeable to discuss the question of treeplanting on that portion of Gear Island leased to the club. It was decided to meet members of the board next Sunday. In the discussion which ensued members of the board held that it would be a good thing to plant trees there, both from the point of view of the shelter they would provide, and from the aspect of beauty. Mr. C. H. Chapman said he had a recollection that some time ago the board, on Mr. J. Mitchell’s resolution, had agreed to expend £2O in tree-planting on the island. He had-been seen by members of the Shandon Golf Club, but nothing had been done. ■ Mr. Mitchell said he had no knowledge of having moved such a resolution, and he certainly did not resent anyone from the club seeing Mr. Chapman. “I substantiate what I said,” replied Mr. Mitchell. “You resented members of the" elub seeing an individual member of the board instead of coming to the board itself ” "Something should be done,” said the chairman, Mr. F. Hewer, “even if we only plant a few trees. Perhaps the Shandon Golf Club will plant some.”
