FUND TO HELP OLDEST POET
£3400 for Sir W. Watson The Sir William Watson National Testimonial Bund was officially closed at £3-100. The proceeds of a reading of Sir William Watson’s poems, to be given under the auspices of the English Verse Speaking Association on February 20, will be handed over to the fund. Among those who have promised to assist at the reading a.e Miss Edith Evans, Miss Sybil Thorndike,- Lady Keeble, Miss Lillah McCarthy, and Mr. Peter Dawson. The object of the fund is to buy a house in Hampstead for Sir William, our oldest living poet, who, it was announced last November, lay ill and in straitened circumstances, and to establish a trust fund for the use of Lady Watson. A separate testimonial fund has been organised in America.
