Wilding Shield To-day AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON Auckland has challenged Wellington for the Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield, the Blue Riband event of provincial tennis, and the matches will be played to-day and to-morrow on the Association Courts, at Miramar. , t Tho challenging team comprises A. Stedman (New Zealand champion), E. L. Bartleet (Auckland champion, four times), and ex-New Zealand champion, N. G. Sturt, ex-New Zealand doubles champion, and M. Morrison. The defending team comprises D. G. France, A. L. France, R. McL. Ferklns, and M. Smith. The challenge threatens Wellington’s tennis supremacy more even than did the recent challenge by Canterbury. The ■tennis should be of a high order, particularly the singles matches, in which D. G. Franco meets A. Stedman and Bartleet, and the singles matches in which A. L. France also meets them. Interest, too, will attach to how Ferklns and Smith will fare in these matches against Sturt and Morrison. The Auckland team Is a finely-balanced one, and every member is capable of touch'ing the heights of New Zealand■ tennis, The contest should be one worth while seeing. The Wellington Lawn Tennis Association has invited Wairarapa to send a representative team to Wellington this season.
