OBITUARY

Mr. T. L. Pattrick The death occurred at his residence in Clarence Road, Riccarton, on Saturday, of Mr. Thomas Laughton Pattrick, one of the few surviving members of the Canterbury Pilgrims who lauded in Lyttelton in the first four ships in 1800, gays a Press Association message from Christchurch. . Born in Hundleby, County Lincoln, England, on December 2, 1846, Mr. Fattrick sailed with his parents in the Cressy when he was only three years old. ‘His father, Mr. Joseph Pattrick, at once made his home in Canterbury, and early engaged in farming pursuits at Loburn, where he reared a family of twenty children. It was Mr. Joseph Pattrick who preached the first sermon to the Canterbury Pilgrims in Hagley Park. Mr. R. Collins An old identity of the Pahiatua district, Mr. Rodger Collins, passed away at his residence early on Saturday ing, at the age of 81 years, reports a Dominion” Special Service message. The late Mr. Collins, who had been m indifferent health for the* past two years, was born in Craigduff, County Galway, Ireland, and came to New Zealand when a vouth of 17. After residing in the South Island for a brief period he went to Queensland, where he was employed on a large sheep station. Returning to New Zealand, Mr. Collins was engaged in farming at Te Ore Ore, Masterton. sequently he farmed at K-onini and Naitawa. He retired about twenty-four years ago, and took up his residence in Pahiatua. Mr. Collins is survived by Mrs. Collins. three sons, Messrs. James Collins (Auckland), Edward Collins (Pahiatua), aud Rody Collins (Masterton), and one daughter, Miss May Collins (Auckland). Mr. A. J. Rutherford The death occurred at his residence, Alfredton. last night of Mr. Alexander John Rutherfurd at the age of 79, states a Press Association message from Masterton. The late Mr. Rutherfurd,, who has resided in Alfredton for over 30 years, was born in England in 1852 and came to New Zealand in 1860. He was in the Civil Service for about. 36 years, and was for many years assistant clerk of the House of Representatives. Mr. Rutherfurd was keenly interested in nature and was a life member of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, of which he was secretary for a number of years. He is survived by his wife and' three daughters.
