Surprise may be expressed in some quarters at the exclusion of E. D. Blundell (Wellington), a Cambridge “Blue,” but evidently his performances In Plunket Shield cricket this season have not impressed the selectors. J. Newman (Wellington) was another bowler who had claims for inclusion after the Otago match, but against both Canterbury and Auckland he was not dangerous. ’ Matheson’s performances against Wellington gained him preference Over D. Cleverley. The captain, vice-captain, and manager will be appointed at a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council probably later this week. It is anticipated that Lowry will be captain and Page vice-captain.
